About the Illinois Virtual School

The Peoria Regional Office of Education (ROE), in partnership with the Area III Consortium*, was awarded the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) contract to manage and operate the Illinois Virtual School (IVS) on April 1, 2009.  

 


The Illinois Virtual School plans to increase learning opportunities for both students and educators throughout the state.  The IVS contract objectives include activities to (1) administer, manage, and operate the Illinois Virtual School; (2) offer both synchronous and asynchronous online courses to all Illinois public, private, and home-school students, grades 5-12; and (3) provide an expanded selection of high-quality professional development opportunities for Illinois educators for certificate renewal purposes.


Current Data Related to IVS

 

 Students

  • IVS serves students from a number of districts, including the very large Chicago Public School District to Tremont, a small, rural district.


IVS Instructors

  • IVS employs 70 Illinois certified, highly qualified teachers.


Course Offerings

  • IVS offers 131 different courses in its course catalog.
  • Courses range from Advanced Placement (AP), credit recovery, and enrichment.
  • The current IVS owned courses have been reviewed for alignment to IL learning standards and appropriate assessments.

 

Professional Development

  • Thirteen Response to Intervention (RTI) online professional development modules for educators are to be hosted by IVS beginning Summer 2010.
  • IVS is staged to be the online delivery system for statewide professional development opportunities.
  • Equal access to high quality professional development can be offered through IVS.

 

 

* The Area III Consortium is a partnership of 10 Regional Offices of Education located in west Central Illinois, the Area III Learning Technology Center, Two Rivers Professional Development Center and Western Illinois University.

    Viewing Grades and Attendance Currently Unavailble

    Due to a temporary glitch in our Student Information System (MAESTRO), students, parents, and schools are unable to view grades and attendance.  Students can view grades in the course itself.
